Ski jumping is one of the most successful Czech disciplines. It was from jumping that the first Olympic gold medal for the Czech Republic came, in 1968 by the performance of jumper Jiří Raška.
Many famous names of ski jumping past and present come from Harrachov. They are Tomáš Kučera (Olympics Grenoble and Sapporo, team member, coach), Dalibor Motejlek - czech jumper from Harrachov, Raška's contemporary, the first ever Czechoslovak holder of the world record in ski jumping - 142 m in 1964 or Pavel Ploc, who holds the mammoth hill record from 1983 - 181 m. Jumping club Jiskra operates right in Harrachov raised athletes Jiří Konvalinka, who is the face of Harrachov or Antonín Hájek, who still holds the Czech record on the Mammoth Bridge - a respectable 236 m.
Ski jumping is a sport that is practically impossible to do as an amateur, so the rental of jumping areas is only provided to sports clubs. Harrachov is unique in that it has all the sizes of ski jumps that exist. There are nine hills of all sizes in Harrachov, thus providing a professional structure for the senior organization of jumpers.
Other ski jumping areas in the Czech Republic are located in Liberec and Frenštát pod Radhoštěm, in total there are 11 places in the Czech Republic where there are hills.
